PERSONALITY:
Blank. Stoic. Unemotional. Unaffected. These are the words anyone would use when describing the blond, and with good reason. Erik is not the kind to show excitement, happiness, nervousness, disappointment, or any other kind of emotion for that matter. Only in extreme cases or when he is truly caught off guard, is when he will show even a hint of what he is really thinking. Extreme cases mean in the face of huge emergencies, surprises, or times when it's just impossible for him to be neutral about something. This is rare though, so often he faces the world with a bored gaze that sometimes intimidates the strongest of people coupled with the fact that the young man also chooses to use his works sparingly. Mysterious can be another word used, although this one doesn't last very long as soon the Nordic's personality becomes very apparent just through his words and actions.
Sarcastic, blunt, bitter, and even a bit snarky. Of course, when you first meet him, he won't immediately snap at you. In fact with those he doesn't know too well or hasn't met, the animal-human is polite and friendly. After that, it depends on how he sees you. If you deems you as just another loud, idiotic person, he will have no problem throwing you a few comments to show he's not keen on getting to know you any more. If one cannot take the hint, that is is when the Nordic will start to dump loads and loads of sarcasm on a person until his dislike is painfully obvious, and his blank stare turns into a sharp, silent glare. Still, he will hold back if it's a first visit. Now for those that he truly cannot stand and has more of a history with, one will be surprised at how bitter and snappy he can get. Erik shows his enemies and rivals not an ounce of mercy nor a smidge of pity; however, instead of acting out and going after them, he will simply wait for them to make the first move, then strike back when he thinks it is the best time. Of course, if the other never goes looking for a fight with him, the Norwegian will just push the thoughts of them to the back of his mind and concentrate on other things.
But of course, there are also some that the student holds in high esteem. If he's comfortable around someone, he can actually be a bit chatty, moving from phrases and one-word answers to being more joking and teasing instead of the snappy and sarcastic tone how he is with those he doesn't care for at all. Be careful though, as the his humor is somewhat dark and sometimes one can't be sure if he's kidding or not. (But it's obvious to hear his change in voice; with sarcasm, it is painfully obvious and he doesn't hide a smidge of his bitterness, but with joking around, his tone is considerably lighter.) Friends and companions of the Norwegian know this about him already, so he will hold back less when it comes to his teasing. An outside person looking into the conversation might be surprised at what he says, but friends are used to it and more often then not will simply joke around back.
To those he is really close to, Erik is much more different. Around these select few, he is more expressive, if only just a little. Annoyance will be met with a slight scowl, happiness with a content expression and small smile, sadness with a strained silence and slumped shoulders, anger with a piercing glare at anything that moves, and nervousness with fidgeting. Then again, there are also certain emotions and such that he prefers never to show, not even to his close ones. Affection for example, one of the few things that break his blanked-faced barrier, is likely to be met with a blush and some 'angry' snapping, and he forgets he's trying to stay unreadable. (But if the affection is unwanted, he will quickly take on a stern tone of voice and promptly tell the other to stop it.)
Finally, there are those relationships that fall neither in enemy, friend, or new acquaintance. With those he dislikes but tolerates, he usually just ignores them. When it comes to any females, he tries to be polite and courteous. With children, he's stern but not overbearing. A lot of it really depends on his mood however, and if there's anything the male is (besides quiet), it has to be emotional.
Despite his blank appearance and lack of words, Erik is actually a bit of a sensitive type. This is only with those he actually cares about though: If he is insulted by a stranger, he could not care less, but if someone he is alright with says something, then he quickly takes it to heart and gets a bit snappy, even sarcastic, all over again. It's no use trying to debate with the Norwegian either, seeing as he has a wicked memory for what others have said and a talent for twisting words around around confusing his 'opponent.' Of course, another thing common for the blond is jealousy. Seeing as it takes him time to really get used to or like anyone, and it's hard for him to trust, he can get clingy over others and jealous over the littlest things.
But enough about the bad. He obviously has some good points about him. The first and most obvious of his positive traits has to be loyalty. Once you have his trust, he will never leave your side no matter how bad things get. (But cross him and he's forever your enemy) Along with this, he has no trouble standing up for himself or what he believes in, unable to pass up a good debate. When he sees something amiss, he also is not the kind to sit back as someone is being picked on or ridiculed. He believes the innocent should really be left out of things, and picking on them is absolutely intolerable in his book.
Even with all this though, Erik is still a character that has yet to be
completely discovered. Sometimes his personality seems to contradict itself, and you're never really sure what to get. All that one can do is sit back, watch, and hope for the best~
HISTORY:
Unsurprisingly, not a lot is known about Erik's history. He refuses to speak about it, and when he has to, he says as little as possible. First and foremost, he was born and raised in Norway. If this isn't obvious by his language, then you'll find out soon, since he's rather proud of this and quickly brings up his heritage when meeting someone new.
Well, everything was just fine in his childhood, minus the obvious fact that separated him from the others. He grew up simply hiding this, never being in the spotlight anyways, no one ever seemed to see what he was trying to hide. However, when high school rolled around, it was obvious that the animal-human wouldn't be able to attend a normal human school. You see, while younger children are for the most part oblivious, teenagers and older students could spot the most minute thing about the person. Instead of just dropping out of school though, Erik's parents learned about NekoTalia Academy. At first he refused, determined not to go to a 'school of freaks'. Secretly, he was elated that others had the same 'problem' he did, but he also didn't want to leave behind his family, his loved ones, his friends, or his country.
Eventually when the school year rolled around though, Erik decided he would just get school over with so he could return to Norway (because, really, he had no idea what Japan was like). Once here, he didn't try very hard at all to make friends, although there are a select few he can probably give the title to. He's entering the Academy as a junior, or 11th grader, wanting nothing more than to finish his studies and go back. He still remains somewhat anti-social, but plans to change that this year, since, if he's stuck here, he might as well talk to some people.
ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE:
Manners. Manners had to be remembered. The Norwegian figured that if they didn't end up getting along, at least this way he could still say he tried and blow the inconvenience off to the side; it wasn't like he really cared if his roommates liked him or not, as long as they didn't try any of their stupid pranks or get in his way.
'Wait.'
A girl? Erik couldn't keep a look of surprise from crossing his features as he saw the woman step into the room. She seemed to be clearly of Latin roots, not that he had a problem with that..
His main problem was her gender. Well, not necessarily a problem, but it was a little awkward, especially considering that the blond had never had to room with anyone of the opposite gender before, and from his experience with most of them, women were usually more bitter and conniving than men were. This was not going to be fun. Quickly regaining his composure, the junior shook his head to snap himself out of his thoughts before looking back at his new roommate, who had just introduced herself as Emiliana. "Erik," he replied, shifting a bit nervously and turning his gaze to the side. She seemed quiet enough though, since the woman didn't barge into the room screaming or laughing or doing something else idiotic..
There was a strange silence, before the Norwegian was hit with a sudden thought: what if more females were going to be in the dorm? One more he could probably deal with, but what if.. he ended up being the only male in the dorm? He frowned, running one of his hands through his hair and looking back at the Latin with slightly narrowed eyes, even though she had nothing to do with planning the rooming. (And she herself seemed a little surprised to find him there.) "So Miss Emiliana," he was sure he messed up her name somewhere, at least with the accent or something, "Have you met the others? No one else is here yet.." Were the others simply waiting in the hallway, or coming later on? -- he preferred the first option somehow.
Erik threw the door to the dormitory a wary glance, though as always his emotions weren't plainly seen, before moving through the room and settling onto the couch. 'If the rest are on their way, no use in going and hiding in the bedroom..'
