PERSONALITY:
Ludwig might be a dog-person, but he's not the playful kind. Instead, he tends to come off as being too serious, more content to keep to himself rather than to try to make friends. He enjoys sports and a good workout, but he's also a bit of a bookworm, both hobbies serving to keep him busy. That he's so studious may be part of his perfectionism; Ludwig gets good grades because he studies hard... which is why he tries to help Gilbert and Feliciano with their homework so often, nevermind that he's a grade below them. In fact, Ludwig often tries to correct other people when they do things wrong... which hasn't won him many friends. Very few, in fact.
If he always looks annoyed, that's simply because Ludwig has a very hard time keeping his emotions off of his face. He doesn't know how to handle them well at all, which only tends to lead to either alienating people or getting into embarrassing misunderstandings. When he's angry, he shouts, but even when he's happy he doesn't smile all that much. Unfortunately for him, he also blushes easily and gets flustered without much more difficulty; it's not all that hard to leave Ludwig a sputtering mess, if you know which of his buttons to push.
Friends and family are the most important people to him, and he tends to show clear favoritism to them, even if it's in his own muted way. Mostly, he just ends up being a bit overprotective and less annoyed at what they do.
HISTORY:
Having grown up in Berlin along with his family and older brother, Ludwig had a fairly average life, though it wasn't an entirely peaceful one. He often had to deal with Gilbert being a complete troublemaker, and there was always some sort of family drama going on, things that he could sense even if his parents never outright told them that something was happening. Part of the reason that Ludwig picked up how to cook and clean at a young age was out of a desire to try to make things easier for the family.
But life went on, and then his parents said they had decided to ship him and Gilbert to the Nekotalia Academy. Though it was mostly for Gilbert's sake, they didn't want to separate the two of them - and Ludwig wouldn't have wanted to be away from his brother, either, but he wasn't very happy about having to go to a school so far away. Still, Ludwig tried not to complain too much, and dealt with the homesickness as well as he could.
ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE:
Ludwig had readjusted his schedule somewhat, and now he came to the gym every other day, though he typically also went both weekends out of lack of anything more productive to do. Though there were usually other students using the gym equipment, he always went alone, and kept to himself. He didn't consider a workout the social thing that other students did; he was here to improve his health, and that was all. ... Though if he could train himself to lift more, that would be a nice benefit.
He always did a warm-up using the equipment, before going on to doing more strength exercises, and then finishing up with a run outside. The only thing that ever varied was sometimes the order of the machines that he used. As chaotic as this school had turned out to be, Ludwig took great pleasure in the routine, and being able to zone out while he exercised.
Right now, he was on his way to the locker room to put on some proper clothes for his workout, a small gym bag slung over his shoulder. ... The only problem was, in the last few minutes, he had become increasingly certain that someone was following him.
