PERSONALITY:
Matthew is an overly quiet teenager, who tends to spend a lot of time on his own. He’s extremely awkward around other people, simply because he has a habit of disappearing into walls; this simply means that people don’t notice him. It doesn’t take very much for Matthew to make a friend though. When he makes a friend, he will talk with them, enthusiastically in fact. He tends to worry about what he's saying to people who he doesn't know though.
He enjoys reading, but also enjoys random treks into the outdoors. There was two very different sides of his personality; on one side he’s an extremely cuddly, calm, and relaxed person, on the other he is an energetic, adventurous, and enthusiastic person. The same two sides conflict with one side having extremely good problem solving ideas, while the other refuses to voice those ideas for fear of being judged negatively.
At the same time, Matthew has a sharp tongue. He has a habit of making comments without thinking first, expecially when he’s tired or stressed. The only thing is no one ever hears these comments, so he often gets away with it. Though, as with the other aspects of his personality, he has elements from the other side of the spectrum as well. Matthew is also able to be extremely flattering, and romantic. To the point of it being annoying for some people, but that side of him rarely ever shows itself.
Matthew is complicated, and to some who know him very well, seemingly a bit bipolar.
One side of him always aiming to please, the other stubborn and cynical.
One side of him tender and loving, the other brazen and cold.
HISTORY:
A big reason behind Matthew’s “bipolar” personality, is his parents. The only people he’s been really close to his entire life.
His father is French, and his mother is English. When he was born, his mother disappeared, leaving him with his father until he was about five. It was around that time that his mother reappeared, and insisted that Matthew did not belong to his father, and that Matthew must be returned. At the fear of a custody battle, his father returned Matthew to his mother and went on his merry way.
Matthew remembers this, vaguely, he also remembers his father’s loving personality. Different than his mother’s, she had a habit of forgetting he was even in the room. Until he was dropping the entire “biscuit” jar on the kitchen floor.
After being raised, until he was five, on extremely good cooking, his mother’s... Kitchen disasters were not appreciated.
Matthew never brought any friends home.
When Matthew was 10, his father came back into his life. In the form of a very late Christmas present, showing up at the front door with a stuffed polar bear.
The bear turned into his best friend. The one he could tell all his secrets to. Someone who would listen. Matthew loves that bear, though he can’t for the life of him remember the thing’s name. And no matter how many times he writes his initials on the tag on the bear’s foot... It always seems to disappear.
After that, even though his mother tried her hardest, his father did not step out of his life again. Even though his father is a bit of a flake, and when Matthew goes to his house he tends to have... A few special guests over, often... Matthew has walked in on some very special events.
Unlike Matthew’s mother, his father remembers his birthday.
Matthew loves both of his parents very much, though he resents his mother a bit for removing his father from his childhood.
Their conflicting personalities combined and created Matthew for who he is.
ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE:
Matthew sighed as he looked over his room, bags packed everywhere. A bag for his clothes, another bag for his clothes. His laptop stuffed into another bag. He sat on his bed, Kumajiro in his arms, and pouted at the bags strewn around him.
“Well Kumaphrodite... Here we are. Mom said she’d be here on time, but it doesn’t look like she’s coming home after all.” A heavy sigh escaped his lungs and he stood up, picking the emptiest bag possible and setting Kumajiro gently in the bag.
“Kumaligator, be good. Don’t mess up my clothes too much.” He said sternly, and with that care he’d set Kumajiro in to the bag with, he began to roughly struggle to close the bag. Once his was closed he stood up, wiped off his forehead for emphasis of his job being finished, and then set a bag on each shoulder. There were still three more to be carried down to the door after these two, but he had to start somewhere.
Matthew tilted his head backwards and shook his slightly, trying to get his glasses back up onto his nose without free hands. His blonde rabbit ears flapping from side to side. He toed the door open, and headed down the hallway. Carefully setting down the stairs.
He got to the bottom of the stairs, and dropped the two bags with a thud. Just as he was turning back to the stairs, to head up and get more bags. The doorbell rang.
Matthew’s heart jumped into his throat, and he turned to answer the door.
